Last year I decided to make a separate list of my favorite nonfiction books of 2022 instead of adding them in with the fiction favorites for an overall top of the year list. Truth is, I don’t read a ton of nonfiction and while I like many – it’s going to be very hard for them to rise to the top of my overall favorites list but there are a few that do deserve some of my recognition. With that said, here are my four favorite nonfiction books I read in 2023, in no particular order.
Killers of the Flower Moon – David Grann
Most people have heard of this book by now since the movie was just released. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I found the telling of the many murders of the the Osage Indians in Oklahoma horrifying yet riveting. This book has been on my TBR since it came out, but it was a choice for Sharon McMahon’s (@SharonSaysSo) online bookclub that I love and highly recommend. She has signups three times a year.
Hidden Potential – Adam Grant
I wasn’t sure I would like this one, but I sure did. Grant shows us how to unleash that extra something within each of us. This is another book that I read with Sharon McMahon’s bookclub. I probably wouldn’t have gotten to this new release yet otherwise.
The Many Lives of Mama Love – Laura Love Hardin
This was a tough one, how do you fall in love with the story of a druggie mom who put her children at risk constantly and made horrible decision after horrible decision? I didn’t think I would, but I did. It’s all about the redemption and second chance that makes this what it is.
It Was an Ugly Couch Anyway – Elizabeth Passrrella
This had a lot to do with timing, but I loved this book.
