When I first started typing this list my current “To Read” list on Goodreads was at 709 book titles. Two weeks later and it is at 716, it is always growing. I’ve already posted a list of new book releases in 2019 that I hope to read, although I know I won’t get to many of them. But I always want to read a good number of books that are on my list published in previous years. I scrolled through the pages of my To Read list and selected 30 books, all published before the end of 2018, that I plan to read in 2019. Let’s see how I do! In no particular order here they are:
The Tattooist of Auschwitz – Heather Morris – I have had many friends tell me now that I must read this book. I started it at one point but had to return it to the library before I was even 30 pages in but I definitely will get to it this year.
The Last Child – John Hart – Another victim of the library due date. I think I have checked this title out three or four times now. It currently sits on my end table in my living room. Hopefully this will be its visit to my home that it actually gets read.
Less – Andrew Sean Greer
When Breath Becomes Air – Paul Kalanithi
The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World – Dalai Lama XIV, Desmond Tutu, Douglas Carlton Abrams
The Pillars of the Earth – Ken Follett – My dad actually suggested this one to me so I am looking forward to it!
The Kitchen House – Kathleen Grissom
Circe – Madeline Miller
The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane – Lisa See
Love Walked In – Marisa de los Santos
Fair and Tender Ladies – Lee Smith
A Gentleman in Moscow – Amor Towles
Turtles All The Way Down – John Green
I was Anastasia – Ariel Lawhon – I became fascinated with the Romanov family when I read The Secret Wife in 2017 and have wanted to delve in to learn more about them. I will likely pick up some non-fiction books on this family as well but this one is historical fiction.
Everything Here is Beautiful – Mira T. Lee
Pachinko – Min Jin Lee
Watching You – Lisa Jewell – This was a late 2018 release from the author of Then She was Gone (which I loved) and I have already started Watching You. I can say I was hooked very early on and should be finishing it in the next few days. If it wasn’t for a silly little thing called “my job” I would have finished it today. Stay tuned.
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet – Jamie Ford
People of the Book – Geraldine Brooks
The Boat People – Sharon Bala
Martin Marten – Brian Doyle – Martin Marten was the recommendation from a good friend that always has great taste in books. I have to admit it sounds odd but I trust her suggestions and am looking forward to something totally different.
Upstairs at the White House: My Life With the First Ladies – J. B. West
The Year of Magical Thinking – Joan Didion
All You Can Ever Know – Nicole Chung
Becoming Mrs. Lewis: The Improbable Love Story of Joy Davidman and C. S. Lewis – Patti Callahan
Forty Rooms – Olga Grushin
We Were the Lucky Ones – Georgia Hunter
Notes on a Nervous Planet – Matt Haig
The Optimist’s Guide to Letting Go – Amy E. ReichertE
What Unites Us – Dan Rather & Elliott Kirschner
