Happy New Year! I always love the new year, so much promise of fresh starts and of course a brand new stack of books to dive into and read. This year I have quite a few new book releases on my list that I hope to get to, many of which will be released in the first six months of the year. I anticipate more will be added to this list in the weeks and months ahead, these are just the books on my radar right now. With a a few trips throughout the year planned and plenty of evening reading time, I am sure to get to a good chunk of them. I am not naive enough to think I won’t pick up a few of these and then put them down rather quickly. Not everything is for everyone.
Here are the books being released in 2019 that I am most looking forward to (by release date). I haven’t started reading any of these as I type this list, so no reviews or recommendations yet – just a list of what I plan to check out further.
December 2018 – That I haven’t started yet
This is probably not what you expected, to see December books here on a 2019 new release list. But these two are December 2018 titles that I plan to start right away this month so I have decided to include them.
The Boy – Tami Hoag – This is #2 in a series but I am hearing it is a good stand alone as well.
Before We Were Strangers – Brenda Novak – This book is getting very mixed reviews so it really could go either way. I am intrigued and will start it very soon.
January 2019 Book Releases
We Hope For Better Things – Erin Bartels – 1/1
An Anonymous Girl – Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen – 1/8 – New release from the authors of the wildly popular The Wife Between Us. Let’s see if they can shock us all again.
Freefall – Jessica Barry – 1/8
The Au Pair – Emma Rous – 1/8
The House Next Door – James Patterson – 1/8
The Burglar – Thomas Perry – 1/8
Her One Mistake – Heidi Perks – 1/8
The Suspect – Fiona Barton – 1/10
The Perfect Liar – Thomas Christopher Greene – 1/15
No Exit – Taylor Adams – 1/15 – This is getting very high reviews from early release readers. I suspect I will download this to my kindle on book release day.
The Dreamers – Karen Thompson Walker – 1/15
The Far Field – Madhuri Vijay – 1/15
Merchants of Truth: The Business of News and The Fight for Facts – Jill Abramson 1/22
Golden Child – Claire Adam – 1/29 – This is the 2nd book published by SJP for Hogarth, the new publishing company of Sarah Jessica Parker. I have this high on my anticipated reads list based on how much I loved her company’s first publication in 2018, A Place for Us.
We Cast a A Shadow – Maurice Carlos Ruffin – 1/29
February 2019 Book Releases
The Silent Patient – Alex Michaelides – 2/5
The Lost Man – Jane Harper – 2/5 I loved Harper’s first two books and suspect I will dive into The Lost Man immediately. This is probably my 2nd most anticipated new release of the year.
On the Come Up – Angie Thomas – 2/5 This is a YA read, but I did enjoy The Hate You Give – although I wavered back and forth as reading it. In the end I decided I did like it quite a bit. I am hoping that continues and suspect it will continue to explore racial issues in today’s time.
The Lost Girls of Paris – Pam Jenoff 2/5
Bowlaway – Elizabeth McCracken – 2/5
I Owe You One – Sophie Kinsella – 2/5 – I have to include some lighter writing authors to give me a break from time to time from the heavy stuff.
Forget You Know Me – Jessica Strawser – 2/5
More Than Words – Jill Santopolo – 2/5
The Age of Light – Whitney Scharer – 2/5
The Night Olivia Fell – Christina McDonald – 2/5
The Huntress – Kate Quinn – 2/26
March 2019 Book Releases
Daisy Jones and The Six – Taylor Jenkins Reid – 3/5 Without a doubt this is #1 on my highly anticipated book release of the year list. You have heard me yammering on about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and all of the other TJR books I have devoured since discovering her. I have been looking forward to this one since I heard of it months ago although I have to admit I am a bit nervous since Reese Witherspoon picked it up so soon for film or tv or a series or whatever. I am hoping it is as good as I want it to be. As Evelyn Hugo’s character was loosely based on real actress(es), I keep hearing that Steve Nicks is on of the inspiration for Daisy Jones. Will March jut be here now already?
The Perfect Alibi – Phillip Margolin – 3/5
The Island of Sea Women – Lisa See – 3/5
When All is Said – Anne Griffin – 3/5 – Griifn’s new release is getting high early praise, I have this reserved at the library already.
Gingerbread – Helen Oyeyemi – 3/5
Girl, Stop Apologizing – Rachel Hollis – 3/12 – A follow up to Girl, Wash Your Face I have mixed feelings about this one. I thought the first was great but often times the second in an inspirational type series can fall flat. We shall see if that is the case with this book.
The Path Made Clear: Discovering Your Life’s Direction and Purpose – Oprah Winfrey – 3/26
My Lovely Wife – Samantha Downing – 3/26
April 2019 Book Releases
A Wonderful Stroke of Luck – Ann Beattie – 4/2
Lights all Night Long – Lydia Fitzpatrick – 4/2
Someone Knows – Lisa Scottoline – 4/9 – Scottoline has been hit or miss for me. I am hoping this new release is a good one!
I Know Who You Are – Alice Sweeney – 4/23
The Mother-in-Law – Sally Hepworth – 4/23
May 2019 Book Releases
The Last House Guest – Megan Miranda – 5/2
Such A Perfect Wife – Kate White – 5/7
The Unpassing – Chia-Chia Lin – 5/7
The Bride Test – Helen Hoang – 5/7
Keep You Close – Karen Cleveland – 5/28 – Author of Need to Know which I loved and has been optioned for film with Charlize Theron both starring and producing. Hoping this next book is as clever and engaging as the first.
June 2019 Book Releases
I’ll Never Tell – Catherine McKenzie – 6/1
City of Girls – Elizabeth Gilbert – 6/4 – I did love Eat, Pray, Love but haven’t found a second book by Gilbert yet that I love. I have high hopes that this novel is it.
The Gone Dead – Chanelle Benz – 6/25
September 2019
The Testaments – Margaret Atwood – I skipped ahead a bit form June to September. The Testaments is sure to be the most talked about book of the fall. The Handmaid’s Tale has gotten new wind under it’s sail in the last few years with a new following and I loved listening to Claire Danes’ reading on Audible. I surely hope she is signed again for The Testaments as this would be my Audible credit of the month without question.
