In the past year that I have been reading up a storm I have been reading a mix of not-brand new books (but still fairly current for the most part) and new releases. As of more lately though, I have had aa sharp incline in the percentage that are more new releases. Some of them I read a little, don’t continue and move on but some I have loved. This has increased by excitement to new book releases.
Here’s what November 2018 book releases I am looking most forward to. Some are sure to become best sellers quickly, but I am sure a few others will be a surprise. There’s a nice mix of fiction and non-fiction/memoirs. These first four book titles are ones I will likely run out to bring home the day they are released.
November 2018 Book Releases
Books I’m sure to Bring Home The Day They are Released
The Shadows We Hide – Allen Eskens – November 13, 2018
I read my first Allen Eskens’ book, The Life We Bury this year in April 2018 and have since devoured all of them. I fell in love with Joe Talbert and the time he spent with Carl Iverson. This book had it all, character development, suspense, likable characters, the whole package. The Shadows We Hide continues Joe’s story after graduating from college as he investigates the murder of his father, who he never knew.
Nine Perfect Strangers – Liane Moriarty – November 6, 2018
While I am excited to get my hands on the latest from Moriarty, I am not sure what to expect. This author has not been a slam dunk for me. I liked What Alice Forgot, Big Little Lies and The Husband’s Secret. But Truly, Madly Guilty was completely not for me and made me question her writing. I am hoping Nine Perfect Strangers is a winner for me and make me a raving Liane Moriarty fan again. The reviews I have seen from those that have early release copies give me hope.
The Kinship of Secrets – Eugina Kim – November 6, 2018
I don’t remember how this wound up on my To Read list. But as I reviewed what was being released this fall it intrigued me. It is the story of two sisters that were separated and raised apart, one in South Korea and one in the U.S. It takes place in the late 1940’s and continues through the South Korean War and after and is inspired by a true story. I am secretly hoping one of my book clubs picks this for the November book.
Becoming– Michelle Obama – November 10, 2018
I debated posting this one as the last thing I want to do is talk politics here. But I am excited to read this and so I have posted it. I have read many other books, stories and articles about our country’s First Ladies and I am looking forward to hearing Michelle Obama’s story too. She is known for creating a very welcoming presence in the White House and I know I will dive right into the stories she tells of that time in her life. And as a mother I am intrigued to hear her perspective in this book about raising her daughters under the world’s eye. I tend to like memoirs on Audible, so I may wind up listening to this one instead of reading it. Or maybe a little of both, I haven’t fully decided yet.
Here are other six other titles that I have added to my To Read list, but likely won’t make it into my hands this month for a variety of reasons.
Hindsight: And All the Things I can’t See in Front of Me – Justin Timberlake – 11/1/18 ~ Yes, I do want to read Justin Timberlake’s book and I have no shame int that. 🙂 I love J.T., think he is amazing performer and am curious to hear what he has to say. I’ll let you know how it goes. This actually may be a very late October release, I am not 100% sure. I have seen the date fluctuate on different sites from 10/30 to 11/1. Edited to add: Since writing this I have seen a copy of this book and now realize it is largely a coffee table photo book and not what I originally expected. I will still be bringing it home from my local library but some of the excitement has fizzled.
Past Tense: A Jack Reacher Novel – Lee Child – 11/5/18 ~ I haven’t yet read any of the Jack Reacher novels, but I plan to. I have decided this will be part of my 2019 reading goals and I will likely start with #1 and go from there. I have heard good things and am looking forward to this series that will be new to me.
Lost Lake: A Detective Gemma Monroe Mystery – Emily Littlejohn – 11/6/18 ~ Again, haven’t read anything in this series yet so I will be starting with #1 and will get to this one down the road.
Joni on Joni: Interview And Encounters With Joni Mitchell – Susan Whitall – 11/6/18 ~ I have loved Joni Mitchell and while I haven’t read a book on her before, this certainly isn’t the first. I see myself saving this for winter break when my kid’s are home from college. I have visions of them seeing this on the coffee table and picking it up as well. Probably won’t happen, but one can hope.
You Don’t Own Me – Mary Higgins Clark – 11/6/18 ~ I haven’t read a Mary Higgins Clark book in years but I am going to give this one a try. It is on the list but I don’t think I will get to it for a while.
A Ladder to the Sky – John Boyne – 11/13/18 ~ I have several John Boyne books on my To Read list and look forward to getting lost in all of them.
Art Matters: Because Your Imagination Can Change The World – Neil Gaiman – 11/20/18 ~ I am not sure what to expect with this one but I loved The Ocean At The End of The Lane.
Kingdom of the Blind – Louise Penny – 11/27/18 ~ I read Still Life earlier this year and while I did like it, I was surprised I didn’t love it as I have read so many amazing reviews of the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. I haven’t moved on to #2 yet but I am going to give it another shot and if I continue to like them I will eventually get to this 14th book in the series.
